Vanagon Coolant Pipe Assembly: Water Pump to Right Cylinder Head

Description

This stainless steel water pipe runs from the water pump on the driver’s side of the engine block to the passenger side, behind the pulley (see installed photos). It includes the gasket and all necessary hardware for installation.
Fits: 1983-91 Vanagon 2WD and Syncro with waterboxer

Due to the complex shape required to clear various engine block and oil pump features, this pipe is notoriously difficult to manufacture. That’s why each GoWesty pipe is test-fitted on a precision jig, built using a perfect, German-made OEM VW tube. After bending, every pipe is placed on this jig and remains in place during welding of the bolt flange, ensuring a fit as close to OEM as humanly possible—every time.

That said, slight variations in water pump housings, engine block castings, and the short elbow on the far side can result in small alignment differences. A minor adjustment to the pipe may be necessary to achieve a perfect fit—this is normal. But rest assured: ours is the closest-to-perfect fit you’ll find right out of the box, guaranteed.
